CACAO LTD
The Cacao and Chocolate of Australian Origin (CACAO) Ltd was formed in 2023 as the peak industry body for the Australian-Pacific Origin Cocoa and Chocolate industry. CACAO was formed out of the need to collectively advance the industry through agreed standards, marketing, education and advocacy.
The industry completed its first ever Research Development and Extension (RD&E) Plan in November 2021.

The Australian Cocoa Strategic RD&E Plan 2022-2027 seeks to modernise and grow cocoa production and post-harvest processing through three priority areas:
- Profitable cocoa growing systems
- Quality, differentiated Australian-grown cocoa for premium markets
- Grow a thriving Australian cocoa industry.
The Cacao and Chocolate of Australian Origin (CACAO) replaces the former Australian Cocoa Council Inc (ACC).
Cacao is an emerging industry in Australia-Pacific and the region is one of the very few in the world that enjoy the right climatic conditions for growing cocoa.
Australia-Pacific’s access to world leading resources across research, education and technology meant the Australian Cocoa Industry could quickly emerge as a world leader in cocoa technology and innovation.
